Everybody finds it difficult to go back to the routines following a fairly free and relaxed summer break. Even the keenest, most conscientious student can struggle in the first few weeks so try some of the following tips to reduce stress and bolster enthusiasm:

  • Be organised (make sure bags are packed the night before and make a note of the days that specialist equipment is needed)
  • Make a note of important dates and deadlines and put them somewhere visible
  • Keep an eye on homework assignments so you can see if your child is meeting deadlines
  • Remind your child that friendships can ebb and flow at the start of the school year
  • Try to ensure bedtime is device-free so they can go to sleep without distractions
  • Give your child time to talk about their fears and concerns and reassure them that it is totally normal to feel this way
  • Make a copy of their timetable and display it somewhere visible
